| The K-Pan Album Zoe Bernard & Robber Bernard (aka Byker)
Surfin'Bernard formed in 2001. These low fi -Techno wonk Rockers met on the squat/ site party scene in 1998 and used to DJ together before turning their attention to writing their own music. Their sound is an unlikely mixture of techno, electro, disco, rock'n'roll, jazz, metal and anything else they can get their hands on, nothing is sacred. They have little interest in 'state-of-the-art' equipment (in any case, they can't afford it), instead they use toy casio keyboards, 'retro' (ok old) samplers and synths, cheap fx aswell as real instruments and car boot record samples. They had gone fully down the guitar, bass and drums route by the time their first techno tune, Snake-a-Shake, was released on Shed Records in 2004. Whilst looking for other musicians to form their garage band with, a friend of theirs known as Chuck Thrux asked if he could release some of their 'techno' tunes. Snake-a-Shake, a rock'n'roll- techno bastard was released and was very popular on the wonky techno circuit in London and, aparantly, in Europe. A remix EP on Midi came next with their track 'Shame on that Dogboy' (see pic below), a horrid noise inspired by a weirdo they once had to share a squat with is soon to be released on the 'Sack of Shed' on Shed. If you want to hear how warped these two really are, listen to their album, entitled K-Pan, available on CDR on their own label. , you can listen for free on the MP3s page.
Tracks released on Shed records & Midi Records.
